How did you get into the industry? 

For years I worked in the restaurant industry. I’ve been within several different positions and learned more and more about each as I went. I launched Hippo Burgers based on this industry wisdom and high standards for a great menu. I’ve worked for over 3 years operating 4 different locations under the Hippo Burgers umbrella.

Tell us about your franchise model.

My franchise model is simple, yet a standout. We understand how to craft a menu that makes sense for both the patron and the franchisees, making sure to limit food waste and streamline processes. Franchisees can step into the gourmet burger business with excellent flavours, precise processes, and branding that is eye-catching for an affordable investment.

Where do you see opportunities or challenges in the business moving forward?

We have a huge opportunity to be a national name in gourmet burgers. We use top-quality ingredients with a list of juicy burgers as well as a generous selection of items for customers to build their own.  In addition to these favourites, customers can also choose from wings, and chicken, and more (with a full kid’s menu). With such a variety of options, we have massive potential to successfully exist within several markets.

What are your unique points of training and support?

We believe that the support we offer is a huge contributor to the success of our franchises. This is why we start with training at our headquarters. It’s very hands-on and covers literally every aspect of the business. We carefully answer questions and ensure our franchise partners have a deep understanding of the operation. This is followed by training at the new franchise location where we can help iron out details as they begin. Support is ongoing and includes access to our field support team.

Describe a difficult moment in your franchise journey.

Making the leap to franchise is something we knew that needed to happen because of the demand we’ve seen for the concept and because of the growth we’ve seen. Once we got moving, it’s been nothing but the excitement on the journey!

Hippo Burgers provides detailed training at both our headquartered location and the franchisee’s location. We’ll continue to provide refresher courses throughout the life of the franchise.

B. What is the Fee Structure?

Franchise Fee: $35,000Royalty Fee: 3% of Gross Sales

Investment Range: $242,000 to $410,733 (includes franchise fee)

C. Territory Definition?

A territory based on 60,000 population center or a 3-mile radius from the location;

What does your franchisee do in the business every day?

The franchisee will be helping with all of the back office pieces of the business, hiring staff, and maintaining the reputation of their Hippo Burgers within the community. They will need to be present within the restaurant throughout the week to ensure quality control and that the staff is representing the brand well.

Describe the ideal franchisee.

This is someone who can work hard, keep the recipes consistent, and continue to take care of the management details of the business.

Do you have any success stories you would like to share? 

We are just now beginning in the franchise world, but I am confident that we will have many success stories to share soon. 

What are your goals for your company in the future?

My goal is to have this brand reach throughout the nation. We want to be a trusted brand for delicious food and a place where people can’t wait to go to get their favorite menu item. Franchising will help us get there.
