How Did You Get Into the Food Service Industry?
I’ve been involved in the restaurant industry for nearly three decades, becoming heavily involved in 1995 through the Royal Capital Corp. I purchased Shoney’s in 2006 and made it my mission to reinvigorate the brand with a fresh look.
What’s New in the Food Service Business or with the Franchise Model?
I am a philanthropist, restaurateur, and visionary, so when I came aboard with Shoney’s I knew I wanted to make the iconic brand relevant to today’s culture.
Where do you See Opportunities or Challenges for the Shoney’s Franchise Moving Forward?
I see opportunity in the quick service model and our newer models that serve beer and spirits. We’ve updated our decor and our entire atmosphere to encompass both the iconic Shoney’s brand that people know and love. We will introduce America to Shoney’s enhancements!
What are your Unique Selling Points when it comes to Training and Support?
We will get you up and running, assist with marketing, and give our franchisees ongoing support. We have several dedicated consultants to help every step of the way. Our systems have been designed, refined and tested in hundreds of restaurants with hundreds of franchisees to create literally the perfect franchise restaurant training platform, we have a lot of confidence in what we do for new franchise owners.

We’ve refreshed and updated the brand to be attractive to today’s modern day markets
How is your Franchise Model Structured?
A. Training and Support Model?
Ongoing support in operations and marketing, branding, strategic vendor relationships and leveraged buying power.
B. What is the Fee Structure?
$35,000 franchise fee for both Shoney’s On The Go and traditional models.
Shoney’s On The Go includes a royalty of 5% of gross restaurant sales.
Traditional models include a royalty of 4% of gross restaurant sales.
What does a Shoney’s Franchisee Do in the Business Every Day?
Besides basic business management, they will be the face of this business in their location. They will be involved in community efforts as this is one of the foundational practices of the Shoney’s brand.
Who is the Ideal Shoney’s Franchise Candidate?
We need people who believe in the Shoney’s brand and our core mission: family first, community involvement, and freshly prepared. This company is heavily involved in several community organizations and we want a franchisee who will carry on this mission in their city.
What Goals Do you Have for the Shoney’s Franchise Model in the Future?
I am taking the Shoney’s brand back to top-of-mind for the American public. Our new models, bars in select locations, refreshed menu with new items and stand-by favorites, and our integrity will bring Shoney’s to new markets and become the new favorite of families throughout the world!
