How did you get into the beauty services industry?

While in college for nursing, I did everyone’s makeup and brows in my dorm room. During my undergrad years, I realized that I was not truly passionate about a nursing career. Knowing I was not going to continue school to be in the medical field, I continued with business classes. I transitioned into a salon where I specialized in only doing brows and lashes. I loved it! Other stylists thought I was crazy for pretty much only doing brows, but I was able to make more money doing fewer clients than anyone else in the salon. After being at the salon for a few years, I was presented with the opportunity to open my own beauty kiosk inside the mall and I went for it!

What’s New in the Business or in the Franchise Model?

During the pandemic of 2020, we were unable to service clients. We knew they were at home wishing they could get the perfect brow fill-in so they could still look put together on zoom calls and while staying in the house. We decided to create a product that could help them do just that. We teamed up with The Perfect Brow Stencil and bundled their amazing eyebrow stencils with our Signature Brow Kit to create the 60 Second Brow Kit. Clients could create the perfect brow in less than a minute without the help of a professional. This new product has revamped our entire in-store brow grooming process and increased our after-service sales.

Where do you See Opportunities or Challenges for the Franchise/Business Moving Forward?

Beauty isn’t going anywhere. People will always want to look and feel beautiful. The franchise is all about offering easy-to-use products to our clients along with educating them on how to use them. There is definitely an opportunity to attract clients, people are not living in pandemic mode anymore. They are getting back to going to work and events and wanting to look good while they do it.

What is your Goal for the Business Moving Forward?

Our goal for The Look By Joi is to get people involved in this billion-dollar industry. We are striving to educate franchisees on how to start, manage and grow the business as seamlessly as possible.

Our training and support include both in-person and virtual on-demand training. Continuing education is a huge reason why The Look By Joi has been successful. Business is all about learning new things and growing with the trends. We want all of our franchisees to be able to access training and support seamlessly.

Your most difficult moment in the Franchise Business?

The most challenging moment for The Look By Joi was when the pandemic forced our city to shut down businesses in early 2020. It was an uncertain time for us, but we used our passion for education to use our social media to connect with clients in real time and show them firsthand how to use our products at home since they were unable to go to a professional. Being able to pivot in the uncertainty allowed our business to understand our clients more.

What does Your Franchisee Do in the Business Every Day?
