How Did You Get Into the Industry?

I was in between jobs at 19 and a friend asked me if I wanted to go paint with him. Obviously I said yes, and It was the best decision I ever made!

What’s New in the Business or in the Franchise Model?

We recently opened up our second franchise location in Lexington NC! We are working on our app and operating technology to focus on virtual estimates with online booking. We believe this is the future of painting and we want to be ahead of that trend.

Where do you See Opportunities or Challenges for the Franchise/Business Moving Forward?

Moving forward I am very optimistic with our business model. One of our strengths is our cost per lead and customer acquisition! Mike our franchisee in NJ is under 5 bucks per lead! While turning 50% of those leads into customers! With our model focusing on smaller markets we can’t be beat in that area!

What is your Goal for the Business Moving Forward?

I am really hoping to get to 5 units by the end the year, but we want the right people and people who share our vision and heart for this business and brand.

Your most difficult moment at the Franchise Business?

Franchising is just like any business, it takes time to find your niche and develop a following that leads to success.  That being said being patient is frustrating when you know you have something that will help many people looking to start a business with a small budget! But I’m willing to push forward because I know it will happen.

How is your Franchise Model Structured?

A. Training and Support Model? Training is done at our office and on the job site in Salisbury, NC. We support you not only in business but also guide you through all the ups and downs along the way to success!

B. What is the Fee Structure?

Franchise Fee $30,000.00

Royalty 5% of Gross Sales

Advertising 1% of Gross Sales

C. Territory Definition?

Based on size and population.

Under 100,000 people and with in 15 miles of center.

D. Day in the life of a Franchisee?

A day for a franchisee will change over time, but starting out you are the salesman, marketing director,  job site supervisor, painter, secretary and what ever it takes to be successful. Now as time goes on your responsibilities will change from do it all to manager of people and processes.

What does Your Franchisee Do in the Business Every Day?

Isn’t this the same question asked in a different way? Refer to the previous question.

Why should someone join Richard’s Painting as a Franchisee?

We are different than most other painting franchise models! First off we are a premium painting brand, we don’t use sub contractors, we use employees to control the quality of our work, this gives you a differentiator when selling jobs. As a franchisee you learn the business from the inside out, this means you will learn to paint! Now this doesn’t mean you have to be the painter but learning theses skills will make you a better salesman! When a potential customer asks you… Why is my paint peeling or can you fix this crack in my wall? You have a answer from experience and not a booklet telling you what to say! We train your painters for you until you have an established group of painters that can train from within. We use a marketing strategy that is self reliant and does not use lead referral services!

Who is the Ideal Franchise Candidate?

Our ideal candidate is someone who is a people person, motivated, willing to learn and most important is being a all around good person that will represent the brand in a positive light!

Success Stories and Failures with Franchisees?

Our first franchisee, Michael signed up and then backed out after being being scared that he couldn’t do the job required. Well after at least 20 phone conversations with me building up his confidence and helping him to what I knew he could do. He is now busier than ever! He has both of his sons working alongside him and he is happier then ever to be a business owner! I am super proud of him for not giving up and taking the leap into business ownership!

What Goals Do you Have for the Franchise Model in the Future?

My goals are the same as they have been for over 20 years I want to be the largest painting brand in the world! I was never sure how that would happen or if it would ever happen but I believe I’m on the right track to make that happen.
