How did you get into the industry?
My parents got into this industry back in 2003 by working for this industry and slowly learning all the techniques and using it to become an entrepreneur.
What’s New in the Business or in the Franchise Model?
There is nothing new in the business or franchise model besides the fact that there are more organized ways of doing the task and cleanliness of operations.
Where do you See Opportunities or Challenges for the Franchise/Business Moving Forward?
I see challenges for the Franchise in the beginning because it is hard to find Franchisees but once it’s going and we have a couple of businesses it shouldn’t be a problem afterward. The business has been running since 2005 so the operation aspect, as well as managing aspect, is well developed.
What is your Goal for the Business Moving Forward?
My goal for the business moving forward is that it is very well known to the point where people are proud to visit it and everyone knows what they are talking about. I also want this business to succeed where we allow other franchisees to grow and show their abilities in this business with a little support from a person like me.
Talk to us About Training and Support, How Do You Deliver?
We have a training period for the franchisees before they open up their location. It takes approximately a day or two to learn all the basics and then they are approved by the franchisor and are allowed to deliver services. The support is pretty straightforward, at the beginning we allow for our help knowing its a first business and help may be needed and then over time it’s just the matter of the franchisee calling us and stating their needs and then we can accommodate from thereon.
Your most difficult moment at the Franchise Business?
My most difficult moment at the Franchise Business is that getting a first look as a franchisor. I’ve only managed locations and operated them but now I have a chance to overlook people like me who are going to manage and operate. This is going to be a major change but I believe difficulties can be easily managed.
How is your Franchise Model Structured?
A. Training and Support Model?
It is expected that Urmi will provide franchisees with one week of initial training at the Franchisor’s headquarters in Chicago, or at a location designated by the Franchisor, beginning approximately eight weeks before the franchisee is scheduled to open for business.
B. What is the Fee Structure?
There is an Initial Franchise Fee when signing the Franchise disclosure document and then there is a Royalty Fee while operating the franchise.
C. Territory Definition?
Your franchise is for a specific location. Your franchise agreement will specify a territory, which will be determined by us. Your territory will have a population of approximately 50,000-100,000 people or a 1-3 mile radius. Your territory will usually be specified as a radius around your location
D. Day in the life of a Franchisee?
As a franchisee, it will be your responsibility to manage your own location. This may be working or maybe even just managing the locations with your employees. It is also the responsibility of the Franchisee to maintain their location with good reviews and daily supplies. They are basically the caretaker of their locations.
What does Your Franchisee Do in the Business Every Day?
Our franchise allows clients to receive their daily salon services in a professional atmosphere. Here we treat the customer like family and allow them to receive a service that we would want to receive. It allows the franchisee to put in their effort and receive incentives out of it.
Who is the Ideal Franchise Candidate?
Our Ideal Franchisee Candidate is anyone who is willing to own a salon and is capable of owning their own business in terms of financially as well as physically which includes labor and management.
Success Stories and Failures with Franchisees?
There has only been success stories with this franchise, we have been able to open up 30 locations before we allowed for Urmi to be franchised, this is a success because we as a franchisor have already been in the footsteps of the franchisee.
What Goals Do you Have for the Franchise Model in the Future?
Our Goal for this franchisee to succeed is that we want it to be all over the world and each and every location. We want this franchise name to be visible like any other franchise such as McDonald’s or maybe even Dunkin Donuts. We want everyone to mention Urmi all around the world.
