How did you get into the industry?

I worked as a motor hand on the gas rigs in Pennsylvania, taking care of generators, ensuring efficient equipment, and making sure everything was running properly. In that job, I started to see the need for our concept. I had 12 hour shifts and couldn’t get my car fixed — I just couldn’t find the time. I actually ended up getting laid off, I had excellent savings, so I invested money in this concept. I bought a service truck and some tools. I took a leap of faith and invested in myself and the business. That’s how I got started.

At first I would only perform oil changes and preventative maintenance, but people kept asking for more and more services. So it developed into an automotive repair shop on wheels.

Tell us about some challenges that you’ve faced and/or some successes you have encountered.

I would say that each day is a new lesson — I always learn something new. Guidelines, procedures and protocols make life a lot easier. Systems are huge. Your clients will see the way you operate, how well it works, and they want to work with you because of your reviews. Keeping the policies and processes in tact is key. Make sure you are keeping your customers happy because this creates your repeat clients.

Another success is that my business has allowed me to venture out and do other things, such as rental properties and I can invest in other ways. I can have multiple revenue streams of income.

Is there anything that you would like to highlight regarding your training and support model?

Phone calls, texts, and zoom calls are available to my franchisees. If they are in a pinch and trying to troubleshoot things, I am here. With that being said, I do expect our franchisees to understand how to diagnose a car and to be a self-sufficient automotive repair technician. I will be there throughout training to show them face to face how the systems work such as the bookkeeping software and how to make the business run smoothly.

What does your franchisee do in the business every day?

They are waking up and checking emails, checking apps, and lining up their schedule for the day, which depends on the day before. Sometimes we have to stop at the parts store to prepare necessary parts for jobs the next day. As they get started, they will need to be answering phones by 8am as people are going to be calling. People may be stranded the same day and our franchisees may want to be available for same day service. When the calls come in, you have to be ready to go. As our franchise partners learn how long each type of job takes, they will be able to better manage their day and their schedules. It is flexible. They can choose to do on-demand appointments or only take scheduled calls through the app.

In your own words, describe the ideal franchisee.

I am looking for owner-operators. The ideal owner operators will have the automotive skill set already, but are seeking the model and the systems to operate their own business. They need to know how to draw in customers, manage their time, and be detail oriented. They need to be coachable and willing to follow.

What are your goals for your company in the future?

The future goal is to have the mobile mechanic industry locked down throughout several markets. I want to have an awesome team of mobile mechanics all over the United States. There are so many bad independent mechanics out there, so I am working to make The Mobile Mechanic Service a trusted, well-known name. They see the logo and they know we are the real deal. I want to start out in the Southeast and grow from there.

Training and Support

The Mobile Mechanic Service’s expert support team works with each franchisee to understand and fully grasp how an ideal mobile mechanic franchise should be executed. This will include everything that a franchisee will need, including social media campaigns, network-wide advertising, initial and refresher training, operational support, customer service techniques, and more.
