How did you get into the industry?

We recognized a need for an underserved population of seniors wishing to age in place, yet needed to have help to stay in their homes safely.  What started as one care companion (owner) assisting a few clients turned into a business with 75 care companions serving several hundred clients in two markets.

What’s new in the business or in the franchise model?

We are continuing to bring on county contracts for in home assistance which grows the brand and the business model significantly and also to be able to offer franchisees the opportunity to leverage our relationships and strategic opportunities for new franchise partners.

Where do you see opportunities or challenges for the franchise/business moving forward?

The opportunities are all around our current market in terms of increased market share and brand recognition, however our biggest opportunities revolve around replicating our company and best practices throughout the country.  The consumer market for senior care is growing so fast in most markets, what we do and the services we provide are in more and more need every day, the franchise model will allow us to grow the business and expand into new markets while giving people the opportunity to win with us as part of the Daughter for Hire Family.

What is your goal for the business moving forward?

Our goal for the business is to standardize functions across both markets, increase market share and to increase revenues year over year.  As this question relates to the franchising of our business, we have a goal of selling 5 franchises in the coming years and make sure that we are replicating our quality of service, consistency and reputation of being a premier provider of senior services.

Talk to us about training and support- how do you deliver?

We are obsessed with training.  We train our staff and team so much it has become a part of our culture and who we are as a company.  We see training, teaching and mentorship as an opportunity to replicate the experience and knowledge that we have built over the years in working with clients and creating a truly excellent personal care experience.  By passing on this experience to our team and now to our franchisees, we can create more great experiences for people and help more people live better, more fulfilling lives.  We work with Franchisees at our corporate offices first, getting a chance to share our daily routine with new owners and really getting into the fun stuff every day, then take it into the field at the franchisee’s place of business.  After that, it’s touch ups and maintenance along the way to make sure everyone is happy, feeling loved and always feeling supported.

Define your franchise model with Daughter For Hire

What is the fee structure?

The Franchise Fee is $40,000 and the royalty fee is 6% of gross revenues monthly.  We wanted to keep the model attainable from a initial investment standpoint and make sure that after franchise fees still showed the great margins and operating cash flow we have experienced in the corporate business.

Territory definition?

Well, we aren’t a Subway, so the markets are MUCH larger than what some brick and mortar franchises are.  Franchisees will literally run entire areas and cities, just one per market.  This makes it extra special and extra important that we have the right franchise partners who see, understand and believe in our core values and mission.

Day in the life of a franchisee?

Each day generally is a balance of operating the business in terms of managing client appointments and care companion schedules and growing the business.  Included in the administrative end of operations are billing, payroll, hiring, onboarding of care companions, reviewing time clocks and care log notes from each shift, answering the telephone and discussing services offered, consultations with new clients and onboarding of those clients.  In terms of growing the business, attention and time is spent on social media, website, speaking engagements, networking, and working with local independent and assisted living facilities.

Who is the ideal franchise candidate?

An entrepreneur with a business background able to run a business.  Must have a strong interest in helping seniors, coupled with some sales experience in order to expand market share. If someone is willing to listen, willing to learn and wants to help people, we can make this work!

What goals do you have for the franchise model in the future?

For franchise owners to be successful and to subsequently purchase multiple franchises of Daughter for Hire.  By increasing the number of franchises in existence, our company will be elevated to a national scale rather than regional.
